A redistricting plan was submitted to the Rockingham County School Board last night in an effort to offset overcrowding, mainly in the eastern end of the county.
Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett said that shifting some county students from schools that are bursting at the seams into others that have some breathing room is the most cost-effective solution to a growing problem.
He added that while elementary schools like Cub Run and Peak View in the Penn Laird area are full, most of the county’s high schools still have room for more kids.
Public comment periods about the proposal are scheduled for the next two meetings. The school board will vote on the matter on November 27th.
