RICHMOND VA: (WSVA) – In the General Assembly, Democratic-led committees submitted their two-year budget proposals to Governor Glenn Youngkin yesterday, and early reports indicate that few of the tax breaks the governor has pushed for made the cut.
The Daily Press reported last night that a 12-percent across-the-board income tax cut the governor had advertised was not included in either the House or Senate’s budgets.
Instead, their versions would “redirect” those income tax cuts into things like new raises for teachers and state workers.
In a statement prior to seeing the proposals, Youngkin said Virginians “can’t afford another tax increase,” although the commonwealth should keep investing in education, law enforcement, businesses, and behavioral health.
