BRANDYWINE WV:  (WSVA) – After nearly a week of continuous firefighting, U-S Forest Service officials say that the Heavener Ridge Fire near Brandywine, West Virginia is now under control.
Forest Service spokesperson Stephanie Chapman said in a release that crews reached 100-percent containment just before 1:30 Sunday afternoon. It had burned since last Tuesday, consuming more than a thousand acres in eastern Pendleton County.
Chapman said that roughly 70 firefighters and support staff battled the blaze, with responders from Colorado, California, Oregon, and the Carolinas all traveling to join the fight.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
