HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, but BC replied quickly as Jaden Alsberry found India Dailey for a jumper to knot the game. RMC pulled back in front thanks to a third-chance effort by Sam Smith and yet again BC evened the score as Riley Corcoran knocked down a jumper. The Eagles got a stop and Alsberry scored on the other end to give BC the lead. Kayla Ford pushed the lead to two possessions and fueled a 12-7 Bridgewater run to end the first quarter. Jay Garcia capped off the scoring run to give the Eagles a 16-11 advantage after one frame.
• Both defenses went to work to open the second quarter before Corcoran pushed the lead to seven points. Randolph-Macon crawled back in thanks to a 5-0 scoring spree before Abby Freeman knocked down a pair at the line to push the lead back out to 20-16. Smith drilled a three-pointer to get back to within one before Garcia made one of two at the charity stripe to extend the lead. The Yellow Jackets evened the game before a Ford and-one layup and a My’la Green bucket put the Eagles back in front by five. Jane Elkins put together a 4-0 run of her own to draw the home side back to within one with BC in front 26-25 at the break.
• Elkins started where she left off with an old-school three-point play to give RMC the lead back. Randolph-Macon pushed the lead to 31-28 over halfway through the frame as neither offense got going right out of the gates. Corcoran knocked down a jumper to bring BC back to within one, but RMC had a response to push it back out to a three-point advantage. Ford answered the call for Bridgewater late in the shot clock as she knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game with just over a minute left in the quarter. Freeman sank a pair of free throws to give Bridgewater the lead back 35-33. The Yellow Jackets capitalized off of a late offensive rebound to tie it 35-35 heading to the final 10 minutes.
• RMC opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run before Ford drained a three-pointer to impede the momentum. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 10-2 scoring stretch to push the lead to 53-40 with three minutes to go. Dailey looked to spark the BC offense as she helped the Eagles out to a short 4-2 run before another Randolph-Macon long-range make sealed the deal.
