Jean K. Brand, 93, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Sunnyside Retirement Community, where she resided since 1995.
Mrs. Brand was born November 17, 1930, in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Percy John and Lily Emily Smith. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Robinson, and a brother, Jack Smith.
She was a devoted homemaker and member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where she was a former member of the altar guild.
In June 1949, in Canada, Mrs. Brand married Clarence “Chip” Brand, who survives.
In 1960, she and her family emigrated to the United States, residing in Rochester, NY, becoming Naturalized U.S. citizens in 1965. In 1969, Mrs. Brand graduated from Rochester General Hospital as an LPN. In 1979, she and Mr. Brand moved to Lynchburg, VA, and in 1993, moved to Harrisonburg, VA, before entering Sunnyside.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Russell W. Brand and wife, Mary of Elyria, OH; three grandchildren, Paul Saxton, and Matthew and Ashlee Brand. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Patricia Smith; a niece, Nancy Seguin, and a nephew, Jay Smith.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Meredith Chapel at Sunnyside Retirement Community, with the Reverend Joseph Butler and Chaplain Cynthia Long officiating. Interment will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery, in Lynchburg, VA.
