Craig Nes Peterson, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Sentara RMH Medical Center, with his wife of 28 years by his side.
Mr. Peterson was born in Binghamton, NY on November 5, 1943 and was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ray Wilson Peterson.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Delores; a sister, Janice Peterson; a daughter, Erin Atkinson and husband, Dustin; and six grandchildren, Bridget, Joshua, Julia, Andrew, Kathryn and Maren. In addition to his parents, Craig was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Noyd; and his brothers, Ray Peterson, Jr., and Norman Stanton.
Craig graduated from the New York Military Academy. He had a forestry degree from Paul Smith’s College, a B.S. in Social Work from Temple University, and a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of Scranton. He enjoyed living in the Shenandoah Valley area at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community where he played billiards, dominos, rook, Chinese checkers and Rummikube with neighbors and friends. Mr. Peterson also enjoyed reading mystery novels and gardening. He was pleased that he could share his produce with others.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11 a.m., at the Strite Auditorium of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community with Pastor Burress McCombe officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Fund and Compassion Endowment, 1501 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
