According to multiple reports on Tuesday, James Madison is expected to hire Eastern Kentucky Director of Athletics Matt Roan as the new AD at JMU.

Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger broke the news Tuesday, and James Madison could make the announcement as early as Thursday as a Board of Visitors meeting is scheduled.

Roan, a Radford, Virginia native, has been the athletic director at Eastern Kentucky since 2020 and he signed an extension to stay at EKU through 2027. Prior to that, he was the AD at Nicholls State, starting in 2016.

Roan, who is 40, attended Pulaski County High School and Hargrave Military Academy, and he graduated from Southern Utah University. He also has a law degree from the University of Kentucky.

Roan will become JMU’s fourth full-time Director of Athletics, and he takes over for Jeff Bourne, who is retiring after 25 years in charge of the JMU athletic department.
