John David Wilmer, of Crimora, Virginia passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at New Market Life Care Center in Virginia, at the age of 82. John was born on August 26, 1946, in Low Moor, VA.

John was preceded in death by his parents Christine and Rias Wilmer, as well as his three sisters (Christine Sue, Doris, and Irene) and five brothers (Rias, Edward, Raymond, Charles, and Steve).

He is survived by his daughter Carrie Comer and her husband, Paul Comer, III; grandson, Paul Comer, IV; granddaughter, Ashley Sullivan and her husband, Jesse; granddaughter, Heather Comer; great-granddaughter, Aurora, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his much-loved little dog and best friend, Jasper. He will be deeply missed by his family.

John was a veteran of the US Navy serving in Key West and he retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer after more than 20 years of service. He was born and raised in the Clifton Forge area and lived there for the majority of his life. He was a graduate of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. He spent many years as a volunteer coach and official in Clifton Forge with Little League Baseball. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated with no public service.
