Jean Young Hylton, a resident of Rockingham County, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at the age of 78. The daughter of the late Harold W. and Mary McCoy Young, she was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 29, 1945.

On September 14, 1974, she married her beloved husband of 49 years, Ronald I. Hylton, who survives. Also surviving are her children Kenneth Scott Gordon and wife, Jacki, David M. Hylton and wife, Amy and Jennifer Hylton Quade; seven grandchildren, Megan and Darby Gordon, Evan (Andrea), Brandon, Ryan Hylton and Kendall and Sean Quade; brothers, Harold J. Young and wife, Evelyn, Keith W. Young and wife, Janet; sister-in-law, Judy W. Hylton and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Hampton Hylton, Jr.

Jean retired from Harrisonburg High School Guidance in 1999 after 31 years of service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church on Court Square and was active in Soup Kitchen, Open Doors, and Ladies Noon Bible Study.

Jean was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. Her smile lit up the room and she loved to do special things for others. Spring was her favorite time of year and she enjoyed gardening, planting and caring for her flowers. She loved the daffodils and budding trees.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Hahn Cancer Center and to Doctors Prichard and Lin for their tender loving care. They would also like to thank Hospice nurses, Sidney and Crysi.

The family is deeply appreciative of the many kind condolences, prayers and expressions of love and support at this time of loss.
