Audrey Louise Driver, 101, passed away peacefully March 9, 2024, at Harmony House in Bridgewater Retirement Community. She was born July 29, 1922, on the family farm near Timberville, the daughter of the late Sidney Lester Driver and Ruth Landes Driver.
Audrey attended Broadway Business School while living with her uncle and aunt, John and Bess Mason. During WWII she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Francisco, California, where her secretarial skills proved useful, and her sharp shooting skills were awarded. Following her service, she graduated from Bridgewater College and worked at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Audrey’s interest in writing led her to The New School in New York City. Upon returning to Virginia, she attended Richmond Professional Institute (VCU) earning a master’s degree and began her professional career as a psychotherapist at the Woodburn Center in Falls Church, Virginia. Audrey retired in 1992 at the age of 70.
Audrey was an avid reader and traveled in Europe and Russia. Although she had no children, she had loving relationships with many nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Driver and Sidney Driver, Jr.; sister, Blanche Miller; and special friend, Tom Wiley. She is survived by brothers, Beverly Driver (Susan) of Loveland, Colorado, and John Driver of Winchester, Virginia; eleven nieces and nephews; ten great nieces and nephews; and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
A special appreciation is extended to Audrey’s family caregivers, First Choice Hospice, and the loving team at Bridgewater Retirement Community.
A memorial service will be held at Timberville Church of the Brethren on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
