CHARLOTTESVILLE VA: (WSVA) – Central Virginia Wine Country is getting a six-figure injection to help it broaden its reach beyond just tourism.
In a weekend release, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that eight counties – including Nelson, Madison, and Greene – and two cities, including Charlottesville, are receiving 100-thousand dollars in grant funding to make their wine more competitive around the country.
Nelson County, specifically, will be tasked with studying “barriers to the growth and expansion” of the entire region’s wine industry, with a focus on improving out-of-state exports.
A VDACS study last year found that Virginia wine generates nearly one-and-three-quarter billion dollars for the state economy every year.
