HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – An Omega weather block is running from one side of the country to the other. That block causes the jet stream to push north over the mid part of the country and drop back south over the eastern United States, creating a stream that resembles to Greek Omega Symbol. That block is helping high pressure stay over the Shenandoah Valley. It’s looking like we’ll begin to see a breakdown in the block this weekend, allowing a series of highs with associated dry cold fronts to move south through the Shenandoah Valley. With clear skies and near calm winds expected for Friday and Saturday night, we may see some very cold temperatures late night and early into the morning. Right now, it’s looking like overnight lows in the mid 30’s but temperatures may go even lowers by the time the weekend gets here.
