ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A man and woman from Elkton were arrested on Sunday night for an alleged homicide in Rockingham County.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson says that at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 20th, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near a residence in the 9000 block of Koontz Corner Road. The Virginia State Police and Rockingham County Fire and Rescue also responded.

Hutcheson says it was determined that one male subject had been deliberately struck and subsequently dragged by a motor vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene. The victim, 65-year-old Robert Lam Jr. of Broadway, was transported from the scene to RMH and despite emergency life saving measures being taken, he was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the Hospital.

The Sheriff adds there were multiple witnesses at the residence that identified the suspect and victim as being relatives, with the suspect being the nephew to the victim. They provided vehicle information and a general direction of travel, and efforts to locate the suspect and his girlfriend, who was said to be in the vehicle with him, immediately began.

Sheriff Hutcheson says further investigation revealed the suspect, 19-year-old Zachary White of Elkton, had changed vehicles, abandoning the vehicle involved in the crime in the Third Hill Road area of Fulks Run. Deputies from Page County located the suspect on Storybrook Trail in Page County at approximately 1 a.m. and he and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Megan Ball were arrested without incident. RCSO transported the subjects to the Rockingham Harrisonburg Regional Jail, where they are being held without bond. In addition to VSP, the Elkton PD also assisted in the search for the suspect.

Zachary White was charged with 1st Degree Murder and Megan Ball was charged with Accessory to Murder.
