How It Happened

Mollie Best got the Eagles’ only shot off during the exchange, but it was blocked.BC had another chance a few moments later, but did not get a shot off. Gettysburg capitalized on its first chance as a corner just over 10 minutes in led to mayhem in front of the cage. Sofia Scalzo finally corralled the loose ball in front and buried her shot to the back of the net to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead in the opening stanza.
• The Eagles had a scoring opportunity early in the second quarter on a penalty corner, and the shot from Kiley Parker trickled just wide. Gettysburg flipped the field and got a shot of its own on target, but Rachel Adel made the save. Gettysburg kept looking for insurance with a pair of corners in a row. BC blocked the Bullets’ only shot during the exchange and flipped the field. Maylynn Watson had a seam on the near side and got past everyone but the goalie. Spear made the stop on Watson’s shot, but Emi Craddock scooped up the rebound and scored to level the game at 1-1 midway into the second frame. GC looked to get the lead back with multiple chances over the final minutes of the period, but a save by Adel and multiple defensive stands by the Eagles kept the game tied at the break.

BC pushed and earned a penalty corner in the final 90 seconds of the frame. Natalie Stock had her first shot blocked, and BC earned another chance. M. Best fired a shot on frame that was turned away, and Stock ripped a shot of her own on the rebound, but it was cleared off the line by Mia Griffith to keep the game tied heading into the final 15 minutes.
• The Bullets broke the tie three minutes into the final period. Olivia Conte got her chance and cashed it in, sending it into the back of the net to make it 2-1 for the Bullets. A GC green card gave the Eagles an advantage with five minutes to play, but the Bullets kept pushing for an insurance goal. Khader made a leaping stop to keep the deficit at just a goal. Khader made three more impressive stops before BC earned a penalty corner with 90 seconds to play. Parker sent it in, but an odd bounce on the wet turf foiled BC’s late opportunity.
