HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A phone scam involving impersonations of law enforcement officers is once again making the rounds in the Valley.
Authorities say they have received reports of scammers, who claim to be with the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD), contacting residents demanding they report to the department for missing jury duty.
HPD has released a statement emphasizing that they do not handle legal matters like jury duty over the phone or accept money to resolve them and will never call community members to demand payment, gift cards, mobile app payments, or bank information over the phone.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up, refrain from making any payments, and contact local law enforcement.
