STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — A woman has been arrested following an accident that has shut down a portion of Richmond Avenue today in Staunton.

Sergeant Christopher Ammons says officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash that occurred on the roadway between Statler Boulevard and Greenville Avenue around 1:20 this morning.

“A vehicle struck some utility poles there, so there are currently powerlines down across the roadway,” Ammons said. “Dominion Power is on location. We’re waiting on them to get the roadway reopened at this time. We don’t have a current ETA of how long that will take.”

Ammons reports that the driver, 20-year-old Savannah Clifton of Staunton, has been arrested on multiple DUI and drug-related charges.

While Clifton’s vehicle sustained substantial damage, no one was injured in the incident.

Incidentally, Clifton was already scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday for Driving a Motor Vehicle with License Revoked or Suspended last month in Waynesboro.
