CHESTER, VA (Rocktown Now) — Columbia Gas of Virginia announced today the distribution of grants to 15 volunteer fire departments across the Commonwealth, including eight in the Shenandoah Valley.

Spokesperson Stephanie Benson says the grants are made possible by a partnership with the NiSource Charitable Foundation and are meant to bolster the mission of local fire and rescue crews as they work to keep communities safe.

“We truly value our strong relationships with local volunteer fire departments all across Virginia. They are a key partner when it comes to natural gas safety and emergency response,” said Columbia Gas of Virginia President and Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Montague. “We’re proud to provide these grants to support their hard work, commitment, dedication and day-to-day operations.”

In Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley region, the following fire departments each received grants for $1,000: Altavista Fire Company, Augusta County Fire-Rescue, Buena Vista Fire Department, Clifton Forge Fire Department, Concord Volunteer Fire Department, Dooms Volunteer Fire Company, Effinger Volunteer Fire Department and Monelison Volunteer Fire Department.

Last year, Columbia Gas provided $500,000 to support charitable organizations that meet basic human needs, community connections, and STEAM education and environmental stewardship.
