AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Virginia State Police are investigating Tuesday morning’s crash on Interstate 81 involving two tractor trailers.

At approximately 7am, Sergeant Jessica Shehan reports that troopers responded to a collision on I-81 southbound near the 232-mile marker in Augusta County.

“The preliminary investigation indicates one tractor-trailer was disabled on the right shoulder with warning triangles deployed,” Shehan said. “A second tractor-trailer was changing from the left lane to the right lane when it entered the shoulder and struck the rear tandem axle of the disabled tractor-trailer. Following the impact, the second tractor-trailer ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned into several trees.”

Shehan added the driver of the overturned tractor-trailer was transported to Augusta Health with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the disabled tractor-trailer was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
