HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Representatives from Bob Wade Subaru recently delivered 80 blankets and 50 care packages to patients at the Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center in Harrisonburg as part of the annual Subaru Loves to Care initiative, a partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The care packages included small pillows, water bottles, stress balls, ice packs and other comfort items intended to make cancer treatments more comfortable. The center treats more than 200 patients each day, with chemotherapy sessions often lasting several hours.

“Our patients go through so much during their cancer journey, and something as simple as a warm, cozy blanket can make a difficult day just a little bit easier,” said Shelby Schultz, medical oncology and infusion manager at the cancer center.

In addition to the donated items, Bob Wade Subaru contributed $2,500 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Urgent Need Pediatric and Young Adult Program, which helps patients and families cover non-medical expenses such as transportation, housing, food and utilities during treatment.

Kevin Knott, sales manager at Bob Wade Subaru, said the dealership has participated in the effort for more than a decade as part of its commitment to supporting the local community.

Schultz said the donations serve as a reminder to patients that they have the support of the community throughout their treatment journey.

The Subaru Loves to Care program, now in its 11th year nationwide, provides blankets, messages of encouragement and other items to cancer patients and their families each summer through a partnership between Subaru of America and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
