HARRISONBURG, Va – The Harrisonburg City School Board is looking at proposed revisions on how to administer medications, including a treatment for opioid-related overdoses.
One of the revisions would require nurses in the city’s schools be trained to administer Naloxone.
April Howard is the school division’s Chief Officer for Student Support and she told the board at Thursday’s meeting that school resource officers carry similar drugs, but may not be present at the time when it is needed.
She added that there has been a lot more research since this all started to know that it would be important for our nurses to be trained and have access to that.
The revision would also require each city school to keep at least two doses of the medication in stock at any given time.
The board tabled the revisions for a future meeting in order to allow for more research.
