RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Abigail Spanberger has ordered flags to fly at half-staff on Friday in memory of Caroll County Deputy Logan Utt.

Deputy Utt was killed earlier this week during a welfare check. When Utt and another deputy arrived to Michael Puckett’s home on Fancy Gap Highway, Puckett opened fire, killing Utt and injuring the other deputy. Puckett then fled the scene but was taken into custody the next day.

Governor Spanberger says “Deputy Utt faithfully served the citizens of Carroll County and the Commonwealth of Virginia with honor, integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. His sacrifice serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced daily by law enforcement public servants who stand watch over our communities.”

Flags should be lowered at sunrise on Friday, June 5 and remain at half-staff until sunset.
