STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The City of Staunton is inviting residents to “Reimagine Beverley Street” as a safer and more accommodating space for pedestrians with a month-long demonstration project kicks off this week.
Starting today, June 1, 2026, Spokesman Josh Knight says the grant-funded project will provide a DIY preview of planned upgrades coming in 2027 to the two blocks between Augusta Street and Market Street.
“Where we’ll basically block off that right-hand lane using these white stick delineators and essentially again take that traffic lane and give it over to pedestrians,” said Knight. “We’ll put out some benches, ideally some shrubbery, make it look inviting, and then really get a chance to see what people think about it.”
Next year’s renovations will also include new pedestrian signals, higher visibility crosswalks, and improved corner ramps.
Knight hopes the changes will make Beverley Street a place to enjoy the surrounding architecture and maybe discover a new favorite shop.
The demonstration ends June 30.
