NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – The James Madison softball program was well represented in the Sun Belt Conference postseason awards as four Dukes earned all-conference recognition, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Leading the way was junior standout Kendra Lewis, who earned First Team All-Conference honors after a dominant season at the plate. Lewis posted a .403 overall batting average, recording 48 hits, 30 runs scored, 13 doubles, and 10 home runs while driving in 36 runs.
In conference play, she hit .382 with 26 hits and 22 RBI while starting in 48 games for the Dukes. Lewis led the Sun Belt in numerous categories, with being number one in batting average and top five in slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Joining Lewis on the First Team was two-way contributor Payton List. List delivered a strong all-around season, batting .306 overall with 38 hits, 11 home runs, and 40 RBI while also providing value in the circle.
She logged 111.1 innings pitched, earning nine wins and striking out 98 batters. In conference action, she hit .302 with 21 RBI and continued to serve as a key arm for JMU’s pitching staff.
On the Second Team, junior standout Cali Legzdin earned recognition after a productive year both offensively and defensively. Legzdin hit .338 overall with 44 hits, 10 home runs, and 32 RBI while posting a .976 fielding percentage. In conference play, she elevated her production further, hitting .400 with 26 hits and 15 RBI.
Earning Honorable Mention recognition was Kylee Gleason, who delivered a steady offensive presence throughout the season. Gleason hit .339 overall with 57 hits, 22 RBI, and multiple extra-base hits, while also contributing defensively with a .978 fielding percentage. In Sun Belt play, she hit .300 with 24 hits and 12 RBI.
The Dukes are set to start their post season play against No. 3 Texas State on Thursday May 14 in the quarter finals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Lafayette, Louisiana First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. ET and you can listen on the JMU Radio Network (106.9 FM | 1360 AM).
