ORIGINAL STORY (5/4/26 6:17 am): A significant interstate closure is coming up this weekend in Augusta County.
Southbound I-81 is set to close in the Staunton area from 6pm Saturday May 9 through 8am Sunday May 10.
The closure will allow contractors to set large overhead sign structures and take care of some paving as part of the ongoing interstate-widening project.
Brian Baer from the Virginia Department of Transportation says drivers should follow posted detours when headed south.
