FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College Softball team swept Mary Washington with a pair of comeback victories on Wednesday. Seniors Andrea Savage and Jordan Wise each tallied their 100th career hits in game two.

Game 1
The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 3, Mary Washington 2
Records: Bridgewater 25-14, Mary Washington 16-21

How It Happened
• BC left a runner stranded in the top of the first after McKenna Dayton was tagged by a pitch with two outs. Mary Washington opened its half of the first frame with a double and followed with some small ball. A bunt moved the runner to third, but a foul pop-up gave BC two outs. A single to left field followed and made it 1-0 for the home team. A walk followed to put a pair of runners on, and UMW backed that up with a single back up the middle to drive in the lead runner and akenit 2-0.
• Lily Moyers had BC’s first hit of the afternoon in the bottom of the second, but she was left on the bases. Mackenzie regrouped and got through the second inning in order. Aniella Baldwin singed for BC in the top of the third with one away and McKenna Mueller followed her with a double to put the top two batters in the BC order in scoring position. With two down. Olivia Eastlake delivered as the rookie singled through the left side and both runners scored to tie the game at 2-2.
• The home side left a pair of runners stranded in the bottom of the third, while a double play by Mary Washington squandered Bridgewater’s chance to take the lead in the top of the fourth. The home team had another runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, but a lineout to Mueller kept the game tied.
• Bridgeater cashed in during the top of the fifth. Baldwin singled with one away, and Mueller doubled on the very next pitch, allowing the speedy Baldwin to score. UMW had a chance to respond in the bottom of the frame, but left a two-out walk stranded. The bottom of the sixth saw the potential tying and go-ahead runs reach base for Mary Washington in the bottom of the sixth, but a nice play by Andrea Savage at third caught the lead runner trying to advance to third to foil the chance.
• BC went down in order in the seventh, and Cauthorn followed with a punchout to open the bottom of the frame. Angel followed with a single or UMW, and a flyout moved the potential tying run to second base. Cauthorn closed the game by extending her program records as she sat down Farhat on strikes to secure the comeback victory.

Match Notes,
• Cauthorn (14-7) extended her program records with seven strikeouts to move her career tally to 375 as she eyes becoming the first Eagle to reach 400 Ks. Baldwin, Mueller and Moyers led the BC offense, each with a pair of hits.
• Csontos (5-6) took the loss for UMW after tossing the final 4.0 innings in relief. Five different Eagles had a hit.

How It Happened
• Baldwin reached on an error to open game two and stole second. BC was unable to advance her on a pair of flyouts, but a wild pitch moved her to third before a pop-up ended the frame. Mary Washington put its second runner of the contest bon the bases thanks to a base knock, but Lexi Schaaf showed off her arm, catching the runner stealing on her way to second. UMW put another runner on thanks to a base rip, but a groudnout to Wise at second ended the frame. Wise led off the second with a single, but was left stranded at second. Mary Washington strung together a pair of hits in the bottom of the frame, but a strikeout by Elena Williams silenced the threat.
• BC struck in the top of the third as Kaelyn Ramsey and Baldwin each singled to open the frame. Mueller bunted to advance the runners, and Eastlake drove in Ramsey with a groundout to make it 1-0. Mary Washington wasted little time in responding. BC got two quick outs in the bottom of the third, but a pair of two-out hits put the pressure on. Presg followed with an infield hit to drive in the lead runner and tie the game. Another infield hit followed to load the bases, and Farhat followed with a single to left, driving in a pair and giving the home team a 3-1 lead.
• Bridgewater went down in order in the visiting half of the fourth. UMW put a runner on with another infield hit, but Schaaf flexed her arm again as the Eagle was caught stealing. Badwin met the same fate in the top of the fifth for BC as she was flagged down on her way to second. UMW looked to strike again in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff double. Kylie Jones came in to pitch and walked the first batter she faced, and an error loaded the bases with just one out. A flyout to Baldwin and a groundout to Savage stranded all three Mary Washington base runners and kept the game tied.
• The visiting Eagles opened the top of the sixth with a single by Mueller. Eastlake stepped in next and delivered again as she homered to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Two outs later, Savage and Lily Moyers singled back-to-back, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position. A strikeout left two runners stranded for BC. UMW wrestled the lead back in the sixth. A walk opened the frame, and a bunt followed to move the runner into scoring position. Yeriga followed with a double back up the middle to drive in the runner to make it a 4-3 UMW lead. A pair of groundouts fended off the remaining Mary Washington threat, sending the game to the seventh.
• With one away in the top of the seventh, Baldwin singled again. Mueller stepped in next and hit a high chopper to third base, but the fielder for UMW threw it well off target. Baldwin showed off the speed as she scored easily from first, and Mueller was on safely at third with the game tied up once again, 4-4. Eastlake dug in next and delivered again as a hard hit ball to shortstop caromed off the fielder and allowed Muelelr to score easily and give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. Wise followed with another hit an out later to move Eastlake to third, but a pop-up ended the inning with Bridgewater’s newfound lead. Jones came back out with the lead and rolled. She threw just six pitches in the bottom of the seventh as a lineout and a groundout to Mueller, along with a groundout to Savage, secured the second comeback win of the day.

Match Notes,
• Jones (2-4) picked up the win after tossing 2.2 innings of work in relief and allowing just one hit. Baldwin’s three hits led the offense for BC. Eastlake drove in four runs in the win, matching the team-high this season. Wise’s two base knocks and Savage’s single in the sixth pushed both to the 100-hit mark in their careers, joining Mueller, who joined the club in the season opener.
• Dobson (1-4) took the loss after just tossing the top of the seventh in relief. Angel added to her team-high with three hits in game two.

Up Next
Bridgewater concludes the regular season with a 26-14 mark and will qualify for the ODAC Torunament next weekend in Salem, Va.
