HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Dozens of people expressed their concerns at Tuesday night’s Harrisonburg City Council meeting about the city’s contract with the Flock camera company.
Resident Noah Adka told the council during the public comment period of the meeting that what citizens want is not that complicated and not that radical.
“We want to cancel the contract with Flock Safety, take the cameras down, and do something that will matter long after this meeting is over. Pass a data privacy ordinance that gives every residence in the city real protection. One on data as a property right, and let’s codify a policy that says this city will never again sign a surveillance contract without the public knowing it first,” said Adka.
He added that Staunton and Charlottesville have recently canceled their Flock contracts, and he hopes Harrisonburg will be next.
