HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Harrisonburg Public Works will host the fourth annual Pollinators in Your Yard. The event invites community members to learn how they can support local pollinators.
This year’s event will take place Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. Educational talks will be held in the Downtown Ice House building, with additional education stations and interactive activities hosted at Drifters Café and Pale Fire Brewing Company. The event is free, family-friendly and open to all ages.
The afternoon will feature two panel discussions highlighting local pollinator-focused projects. Attendees will hear about the Trinity Presbyterian Church bioretention project from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. with insights from City staff and community partners on the design, plant selection and ongoing maintenance of the space. Following a short break, a second panel will focus on gardens within the Old Town Historic District from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., sharing research, experiences and collaborative efforts to support pollinators throughout the community.
Participants are encouraged to take part in the event’s BINGO card activity by visiting education stations hosted by local businesses and organizations to learn simple ways to support pollinators at home. Those who complete their BINGO cards will win prizes, including pollinator photography, local business gift cards, native plant resources, pollinator plants and other pollinator-themed items.
“Community partnerships continue to play a vital role in supporting our local pollinators,” Harrisonburg Public Works Green Space Manager Jeremy Harold said in a release. “This event allows us to share the progress we’ve made, highlight the work of our partners and provide community members with practical tools to support pollinators in their own yards and neighborhoods.”
A full schedule of events and a list of participating organizations will be available on the event webpage at Pollinators In Your Yard | City of Harrisonburg, VA.
