HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Central Virginia Blue Ridge area, Augusta, and Rockingham Counties.
The advisory goes into effect at 1PM Monday afternoon and ends at 7AM Tuesday morning.
Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow and sleet accumulations up to 1 inch. 2 inches is possible in higher elevations. Ice accumulations are a light glaze in the Valley and up to two tenths of an inch in higher elevations.
The National Weather Service says to plan on slippery road conditions as the hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.
The NWS says snow will move into the area this afternoon but may struggle to accumulate in the valleys. Precipitation will then change over to sleet and primarily freezing rain this evening. The precipitation will either taper off or change to plain rain Tuesday morning
