HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Police Department has announced the passing of retired K9 Bilbo, who was a narcotics detection dog who served in the department from 2014-2019 with current acting Captain Chris Watson.

HPD says Bilbo was not bred to be a police dog, he was rescued from a shelter in San Antonio, Texas.

During his time with the department, he went on 186 deployments, seizing a combined million dollars in currency and narcotics as well as 10 firearms.

Officials ask folks to keep Bilbo’s handler and family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this loss.
