MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) — A barn burned to the ground in an overnight blaze in Rockingham County.
At around 9:30 last night, Fire and Safety Specialist Tyler Jessup reports crews were dispatched to the 12-hundred block of North River Road in Mount Crawford where residents reported visible flames inside an agricultural building.
“By the time the fire department arrived there was fire pretty much throughout the structure,” Jessup said. “They were unable to mount an offensive attack, so the decision was made, when we couldn’t safely put people in, to allow the structure to burn. It’s a total loss.”
Jessup said a unit stayed at the scene throughout the night until the structure fully collapsed this morning.
Authorities expect the fire to burn and smolder over the next few days.
No one was injured in the incident, and the cause of the fire is likely to remain undetermined.
