ELKTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Elkton Town Council unanimously approved a contract to remove debris from the Bear Lithia Spring at Monday night’s meeting.
The historic facility has been closed since last Monday, when the roof structure covering the spring collapsed under the weight of snow and ice and emptied construction debris including wood, cinder block and wires into the water.
The Council chose “Site Works Unlimited” of Elkton to begin removing debris in and around the Spring as soon as possible.
Plans are also underway for the construction of a new spring house designed to meet current building codes and withstand appropriate snow loads.
