VERONA, Va – Augusta County authorities investigated a bomb threat over the weekend at the Verona Community Center.

Sheriff Donald Smith stated in a news release that the call came in shortly after five o’clock Saturday afternoon.

Smith reported that the caller’s voice was distorted and he was unable to answer questions regarding the area and location of the bomb.

However, the man did say that a book bag containing the bomb was located near the back of the sanctuary located on Lee Highway.

A search of the building found no suspicious items.

Smith said this threat was similar in nature to the one to the Murphy-Deming building in the Fishersville’s area in June of last year. In both instances, the call came from overseas.
