HARRISONBURG, Va – Harrisonburg and Rockingham nonprofit organizations have a summer opportunity to apply for funding from The Community Foundation. The Community Foundation’s annual competitive grant cycle has just opened on Saturday, July 1. Local 501(c)3 agencies are eligible to apply until the deadline, 11:59PM on Friday, September 1. The Community Foundation will distribute all grant awards by the end of the 2023 calendar year.
Grants from The Community Foundation address various needs such as caring for animals, supporting the arts community, healthcare of those most vulnerable, and the overall wellbeing of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community. In Fall 2022, The Community Foundation granted $152,235 to thirteen local nonprofits. The largest distribution ($55,000) came from the Earlynn J. Miller Fund for the Arts. Grant distributions come from funds held at TCFHR and are determined through a competitive application and grant review committee process each fall. Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, a 2022 grants recipient used their award to open their new dance space in Downtown Harrisonburg. “The Earlynn J. Miller Endowment for the Arts grant provided us the opportunity to obtain our own space and fit it with the proper flooring and barres for our growing adult dance community. We are looking forward to utilizing our space for open dance classes, rehearsals and performances, sharing our love of dance with the community.” – Ellie de Waal, Treasurer, Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative.
Organizations must be tax-exempt public charities under IRS Section 501(c)3 or other nonprofit status. Organizations must be serving and physically located in Harrisonburg or Rockingham County.
