HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors sent a letter to Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reed on June 2, 2025, in regard to the termination of their joint operations of the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), effective June 3, 2030.

According to the letter, the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors reached the conclusion that the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center (HRECC) is no longer able to meet the needs of the Rockingham County community.

Harrisonburg Communications Director Michael Parks said the City of Harrisonburg has had multiple conversations with county officials but is not supportive in moving in this direction.

“Certainly, the county, if this is the direction that they wish to go, there are steps that would have to be taken to continue moving in that direction. However, since we’re receiving this letter in June, there have been no significant conversations about future steps,” said Parks.

Parks continued by saying they are in the process of working to interview candidates for the HRECC director position and their focus is the future of the ECC.
