AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Crews with Augusta Fire and Rescue helped with a rescue over the weekend at St. Mary’s Wilderness.

Augusta County Emergency Communications Center dispatched multiple units on Saturday to a woman who had suffered an injury.

Crews with several companies, including the Raphine and Riverheads Volunteer Fire Companies hiked around two miles in to find the woman with a right lower leg injury.

Officials say due to the nature of the injury and challenging terrain, crews worked with Virginia State Police to utilize a helicopter hoist.

The patient was flown to U-V-A Hospital for treatment.

Augusta County Fire and Rescue thanked all of the agencies involved that helped to assist on the call.
