SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Authorities are warning of a Social Security phishing scheme making the rounds in Shenandoah County.

The Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a resident recently received a call from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration, stating that the citizen’s identity had been compromised and that they needed a new Social Security number.

The imposter then told the citizen that in order to receive a new Social Security number, they would need to first provide their current one.

This is a scam.

Anyone who has received a call like this should contain the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
