AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County Fire and Rescue responded to a hazardous material incident yesterday in Swoope.
ACFR says multiple units were dispatched to a home just off Buffalo Gap Highway where a resident had unknowingly created chlorine gas by mixing bleach and vinegar in the washing machine.
Nine units from the surrounding area joined the Swoope Volunteer Fire Company and Augusta County’s EMS Supervisor to remove the material and administer medical care to the affected individuals.
ACFR says residents should never mix household cleaners, and anyone suspecting chemical exposure should quickly evacuate the area and call 9-1-1.
