STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Staunton-Valley 230 kilovolt Electric Transmission Line Rebuild Project will require a significant traffic detour at a major intersection in Staunton beginning Wednesday.

The Dominion Energy project involves rebuilding nearly 12-and-a-half miles of electric transmission line, including a section that crosses over the intersection of Greenville Avenue and Commerce Road.

City Communications Manager Josh Knight says powerline work will shut down the intersection near the Watering Can underpass.

“It’s going to be in effect for pretty much throughout the entire day, 7am till 7pm beginning Wednesday July 16th, and hopefully just through Friday July 18th. However, Dominion Energy has reserved Saturday July 19th as a possible completion date if work is delayed due to weather issues or anything like that,” Knight says.

Knight adds that more than 100 detour signs will guide drivers to Statler Boulevard, Edgewood Road, Augusta Street, Middlebrook Avenue, and Hampton Street to bypass the closed intersection.
