HARRISONBURG, Va. – One Georgia State swing in the sixth inning kept James Madison baseball from sweeping the Panthers, falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park in Sun Belt Conference baseball.

The Dukes fall to 19-12, 5-5 SBC while the Panthers snap their six-game losing streak and move to 15-17, 5-7 SBC.

Junior Ryan Murphy started on the mound and went six innings while striking out four and was followed by freshman Jaden Kinsler who tied career-highs with three perfect innings and four strikeouts. At the plate, freshman Mike Mancini led the way with a 2-for-4 effort, collecting a double and an RBI.

Rafael Acosta (2-0) earned the win for GSU behind seven innings of one-run ball, scattering three hits. Brady Jones earned his first save of the season.

How It Happened
Sixth Inning
Both teams combined for three hits through the first five innings to head into the sixth with a scoreless tie. Georgia State used a pair of back-to-back singles to put two on and then broke the tie with a three-run homer from Matt Ruiz.

Seventh Inning
The Dukes got a run back as sophomore Fenwick Trimble led off with a hit by pitch and moved to second on a grounder. Mancini then doubled into left field along the foul line to score Trimble and make it 3-1.

Game Notes
• Ryan Murphy and Jaden Kinsler combined for five 1-2-3 innings.
• Four of Georgia State’s five hits came in the sixth inning.
• Both run scoring hits for each team were the only extra base hits allowed in the game.
• JMU snapped its streak of four straight games with a home run.
