HARRISONBURG VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) – An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect across much of the area from late this morning through the evening, issued by the National Weather Service.  A Heat Advisory is also active for the central Shenandoah Valley and Potomac Highlands during this period.
Expect excessively hot and humid conditions continuing through at least Wednesday, with daily heat indices reaching between 100° to 110°F, and temperatures potentially climbing as high as 115°F. This prolonged heat wave is caused by a significant ridge of high pressure building over the eastern United States.
As we move toward the latter part of the week, there will be a return of showers and thunderstorms, with a frontal system approaching from the north. This system may linger in the area into the weekend.
Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat periods to minimize health risks.
