WILMINGTON, N.C. – James Madison men’s golf capped a strong tournament with its best round of the season on Monday as the Dukes climbed into a tie for fourth place to wrap up play at the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate, hosted at the par-72, 7,031-yard Country Club of Landfall.

The Dukes posted a final-round 275 (-13) to close out its weekend in Wilmington, vaulting four spots on a strong 17-team leaderboard to match Stetson in fourth place at 14-under, just seven behind first-place No. 27 TCU and six ahead of No. 44 Clemson in seventh.

The final-round performance was tied for the lowest final loop in the field on Monday, but also marked the Dukes’ fifth-lowest single round to par in program history and lowest since posting a 270 (-18) at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate on Feb. 15, 2020.

Freshman Václav Tichý put his name in the record books to lead the way, firing a 65 (-7) to cap his week to set the program record for lowest single round to par ever carded by a JMU freshman.

His score pushed him 28 spots up the 92-player leaderboard and into a tie for 10th at 210 (73-72-65, -6), giving him top-10 finishes in back-to-back events after tying for third at last week’s ECU Intercollegiate.

Fellow freshman Owen Kose (68-73-71) finished just two shots back of Tichý in a tie for 17th at 212 (-4). The week saw him pick up his ninth and 10th rounds of par or better this season in just 23 chances, second-most on the team behind sophomore Daniel Cheng, who was a shot behind Kose and tied for 19th at 213 (69-71-73).

Sophomore Kyle Kushnir (t-54, 221) and junior Alexandre D’Aurelle de Paladines (t-58, 222) closed out the JMU scoring on the week, with both players contributing to the Dukes’ monster final round with scores of 68 (-4) and 71 (-1), respectively.
