STERLING, VA (Rocktown Now) — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for potential flooding caused by excessive rainfall until 7:45 pm on Tuesday. The flood warning includes portions of western Virginia, including Rockingham County and eastern West Virginia, including Hardy and Pendleton Counties.
A prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain showers, accompanied by embedded thunderstorms, is forecasted to persist through the evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 1.5 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flooding of low-water crossings is also anticipated.
