ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Rockingham County Fire and Rescue has issued online safety guidelines for families with kids playing spring sports.
RCFR says parents should make sure young athletes have a water bottle for practices and games, drinking about 10 gulps of water for every 20 minutes of play.
Families should also be aware of the symptoms of concussion and know the availability and location of the nearest Automated External Defibrillator at athletic fields.
Coaches should have each player’s current emergency contact information.
Authorities suggest athletes have at least one or two days off each week from any particular sport and several weeks break between seasons.
