ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – A suicide call ended in tragedy this morning in Hinton.
At approximately 3am, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an in-progress suicide threat with a knife at a residence in the 6-thousand block of Rawley Pike.
Despite deputies’ efforts inside the residence, the male subject refused to communicate, did not follow verbal commands, and began approaching the officers.
Deputies used non-lethal weapons without any effect.
According to a R-C-S-O statement, a deputy fired his service weapon once at the individual, allowing authorities to detain him.
The Clover Hill Rescue Squad transported the man to Sentara-RMH where he was later declared deceased.
