HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Harrisonburg Police Department is encouraging area drivers to take responsibility for the choices they make when on the road during this “Distracted Driving Awareness Month.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving killed over 3,200 people in 2023 alone.

In an online post, Harrisonburg Police Sergeant Wayne Westfall demonstrates an incomplete list of things that should not be done behind the wheel.

“Not putting on your make up, not wearing AirPods, not tying your tie,” said Westfall. “Even though your dentist wants you to do it, not flossing your teeth while driving.”

Instead, Westfall says drivers should keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
