NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Terrence Edwards of James Madison has been named the 2022-23 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Sixth Man of the Year and to the All-Sun Belt Second Team, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

In his third season with the Dukes, Edwards led JMU in both scoring (12.8 ppg) and three-point percentage (44.1%), while tying for the second-highest rebounding average (4.9 rpg). In Sun Belt play, his averages climbed to 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds, helping the Dukes win 10 of their final 13 regular-season contests.

Edwards also racked up four games of 20 or more points – second-most on the team – and tied for the team lead with a pair of double-doubles.

The honors represent the Dukes’ first postseason awards after joining the Sun Belt prior to the 2022-23 academic year, but mark the sixth consecutive season in which at least one JMU player has been named to an all-conference team. Edwards’ nod is also the second major postseason award for JMU in three years, after Matt Lewis was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2020-21.

The Dukes will be back in action in the Sun Belt Tournament quarterfinals next Saturday, March 4, in Pensacola, Fla. JMU earned the No. 4 seed in the event and will face either No. 5 Troy or the winner of No. 12 Coastal Carolina vs. No. 13 Arkansas State at 3 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. CT on March 4.

The entire Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN+ up until the finals on Monday, March 6, which be featured on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT.
