IRVING, Texas – James Madison lacrosse attackers Isabella Peterson and Maddie Epke each gained weekly awards from the American Athletic Conference, with Peterson being named the Attack Player of the Week and Epke the Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Both players were named to the weekly awards list after contributing key performances in a 19-8 victory over High Point on Saturday. JMU joined East Carolina in taking two of the league’s five awards.

Peterson found the back of the net all afternoon Saturday with eight goals, tying her own single-game program record in the process. She set outright career highs in shots (13) and shots on goal (11) and finished with a .615 shot percentage.

The Sparks, Md. native also added seven draw controls for a season high which contributed to a 21-10 draws advantage in the Dukes’ victory.

Epke contributed as the main setup player for the Dukes’ offense on Saturday, dishing six assists of JMU’s 12 for the afternoon. This was the first six-assist performance since Katie Checkosky on April 23, 2021.

She added a goal for a seven-point afternoon and also contributed four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Epke currently leads the roster in assists with nine.

The duo marked the second and third weekly honors JMU has received this year.

Last week’s Defensive Player of the Week, Rachel Matey was named to the league’s Honor Roll after setting a career high with five ground balls and securing five draw controls on Saturday.

Sitting at 3-1 and ranked No. 12 in the country, JMU will face a home test on Wednesday against No. 5 Maryland at 5 p.m. The Terrapins knocked off Florida, also from The American, in a 14-13 thriller on Saturday.
