DEMOREST, Ga. — The Bridgewater College men’s lacrosse team cruised to a 22-8 victory against Hendrix in a neutral-site match up at the Walker Athletic Complex on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Eagles scored early on as Chris Martel struck off a feed from Hayden Gourley before quickly scoring another less than a minute later, this time with an assist from Jim Davis to put BC up 2-0 with 11:48 to go in the first. Luke Wendler added a man-up goal to notch his first collegiate score 20 seconds later and Martel completed a hat trick 30 seconds after that goal to give Bridgewater a 4-0 lead with 11 minutes still to go in the opening quarter.
• The Warriors got one back from the stick of Maximus LaMendola, but Riley Stewart put BC back up by four less than 60 seconds after the Hendrix first tally. Martel established a five-goal advantage with his fourth goal of the quarter as LaMendola got two goals back in succession. Grant Heidebrecht followed with his first collegiate goal and Gourley registered his first goal of the season as the Eagles held an 8-3 led after the first 15 minutes.
• Connor McLean got in on the scoring with his first of the season at the 12:31 mark of the second, while Martel got his fifth score of the game soon after. Trevor McClelland tallied his first of the year less than 30 seconds later as BC led 11-3 with 10 minutes to go in the half. The Warriors scored two in a row, but a three-goal run from the Eagles which was started off by Grant Nyland opened up a 14-5 lead as BC led 14-6 at halftime.
• Gourley, Stewart, Davis, McLean and Drew Huber all scored in the third for Bridgewater as the Eagles went into the final period with a 19-8 advantage. Jackson Wicker, Colby Smith and Bryce Burgit all scored in the fourth quarter to solidify the 22-8 final score.
MATCH STATS
• Martel posted a game-high five goals to go with one assist and three ground balls, while McLean also tallied six points on a hat trick and three assists. He also grabbed a pair of ground balls in the win.
• With his three assists, McLean becomes the program’s career leader with 83 assists breaking Eric Husselbaugh’s mark of 81 and also surpasses Sean MacLeish (161) for third all-time in points with 166.
• Gourley, Huber and Stewart all finished with four points apiece as Gourley and Stewart both had two goals and two assists and Huber finished with a goal and three assists.
• Davis posted a goal and two assists, while Wendler finished with a pair of goals. Smith, Heidebrecy, McClelland, Nyland, Wicker, Burgit and Gabriel Alexander all also recorded points in the win.
• Alexander went 19-of-25 (.760) in faceoffs and grabbed a game-high 13 ground balls in the win.
• Ryan Addison led the team with a pair of caused turnovers.
• Tyler Carney started in the cage and made nine stops, while Ian Cook finished out the game with seven stops. Ian Domeika stopped 12 shots in the loss for the Warriors.
• As a team, Bridgewater outshot the opposition 55-38 and had a 46-35 edge in ground balls. The Eagles were 1-for-2 in man-up situations while holding the Warriors to 0-for-6 in extra-man opportunities.
