CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — The University of Virginia will hold a memorial for a student who passed away earlier this month due to meningitis.

A memorial to honor the life of UVA freshman Nicolas Ramos-Esteban will be held tonight on the campus’ South Lawn who died on March 7.

Following the incident, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Health Department worked closely with the university to conduct contact tracing to prevent an outbreak of the disease.

UVA Student Health and Wellness confirmed over the weekend that all close contacts related to Ramos-Esteban’s case have been identified and given preventative treatment.

No additional cases have been reported.
