MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) — Residents experienced water outages this morning due to a construction accident in Rockingham County.
Philip Rhodes, Rockingham County Director of Public Works, says things went wrong late last night.
“Around midnight last night, an independent contractor hit the water line as they were installing a communications line for the new Sheetz gas station going in there in the Mt. Crawford area.”
Fortunately, damage was not severe, and crews were able to repair the line and fully restore service shortly before 7:30 this morning.
Rhodes added that the incident serves as a reminder to call utilities before doing any digging to avoid unnecessarily hitting lines.
